West Springfield Arts Council Awards Grants to Eleven Events and Programs



 2022 Cultural Grants Awarded


The West Springfield Arts Council has awarded grants to 11 events and programs for the coming year, and applicants were recently notified of selection.

The Arts Council members considered each of the 22 proposals submitted and determined that 11 of the applicants successfully met the funding criteria established by the Mass Cultural Council.

The mission of the town group is to enrich the cultural life of the West Springfield community, and each year, cultural grants help to support a wide array of programs, including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artists residencies, school performances, workshops and lectures.

  • Award-winning vocalist, flutist and teaching artist Sarah Clay presents “STOLEN MOMENTS”: a narrated concert exploring the pleasures of summer.  
  • Gregory Maichack presents an exciting remote “JELLYFISH” workshop loaded with fun and imagination.  
  • David Neill’s “JAZZ BONES” will present a concert of popular tunes in the style of swing, latin, ballads and rock.  
  • John Matlock will paint “WALL MURALS” on town property.  
  • Sevenars plans its “54th SEASON OF CONCERTS” with live and virtual performances by musical leaders in their fields.  
  • Boston “TREND N MOTION” is a team that loves expressive movement.They use the spirit of dance to highlight how the therapy of expression is beneficial to the quality of life.  
  • “DIALED ACTION SPORTS TEAM” is a BMX Bike/Mountain bike show that the community and children of all ages will truly enjoy and learn from. 
  •  “GRUMBLING GRYPHONES” is well known for engaging children in a highly participatory drama experience with live music, marvelous masks and imaginative content.  
  • A “MUSIC PROGRAM” will be offered to members of the West Springfield Boys & Girls Club After School Program. 
  •  “READ BEYOUND THE BEATEN PATH” will take place in our Public Library during the months of June and July.  
  • The New England Swing Orchestra will present a concert/dance of “BIG BAND SWING”.
The West Springfield Arts Council is part of a network of 329 local cultural councils serving all 351 cities and towns across the state.  Its 2022 grant budget totaled $21,667.00 comprised of state and local funding.

Arts Council members include Joanne Burke, J Anthony Di Giore, Janet Eckert, Madelyn Miller, Patricia Murphy and Robert Whitney.
